In her address, Principal Honore reminded the young leaders that leadership is both a privilege and a responsibility. The ceremony brought together Rotarians, students, and a proud parent, who all gathered at the school's centenary hall to witness a defining moment in the school’s history.
Past President of the Rotary Club of Central Port of Spain (RCCPOS), Elitha Rocke-Maharj, noted that the newly minted Interactors have teenage "siblings" in Interact Clubs at St. Francis Boys’ College, Woodbrook Government Secondary, and St. Anthony’s College who are walking a similar path of community involvement and giving back.
Her words set the tone for a ceremony rooted in accountability, purpose, and compassion.
Providing historical context, Honorary Rotarian Cereonne Prevatt shared the background of the school's first Interact Club several years ago, reflecting on its impact and the renewed opportunity now before this new cohort of leaders.
RCCPOS' President Anne-Marie Lall-Salim captured the spirit of the movement, describing Interact as “Rotary in action through young people.” She explained, “Interact is a club that brings students together to develop leadership skills, serve their school and community, promote peace, and build lifelong friendships.”
She further emphasised the deeper meaning behind the badge each student received, stating, “Through Interact, students learn the true meaning of Service Above Self while becoming the change makers this nation needs.”
Rotarian Nychal Clarke reinforced the call to purpose, encouraging the young men to lead with integrity and intention, while embracing the Rotary ideal of Service Above Self in every initiative they undertake.
Interact President Rene Mohammed delivered a heartfelt and forward-looking address, outlining his vision for the club’s impact within St. Mary’s College and the wider community. He challenged his fellow Interactors to rise to the occasion and commit to meaningful action, not just words.
The chartering of the Interact Club of St. Mary’s College stands as a testament to Rotary’s enduring commitment to youth development, leadership cultivation, and community service. As these seventeen young men begin their journey, they do so with the support of a proud Rotary family and a shared mission: to grow, to serve, and to lead with purpose.
