Conflict Is Inevitable, Peace Is a Choice: Let It Begin With Us

“Let There Be Peace on Earth and Let it Begin with Me”

Conflict is inevitable. It is a natural part of human interaction and group dynamics. Each person responds to situations and engages with others differently because we all come from diverse backgrounds, hold unique experiences, pursue distinct goals and have our own perspectives about just everything. Hence, often when someone is convinced that their perception is the only ‘truth’ or ‘reality’, it may not be the same for another.

Hi everyone! I’m Kerry-Ann Erskine, Treasurer at the Rotary Club of Central Port of Spain (RCCPOS), and I’d like to share a quick look at something that might not seem exciting at first: a Club's annual budget.

Even so, it’s one of the most valuable tools we have for making informed choices, staying organised, and keeping our projects running smoothly.

Economic and Community Development- Rotary's Theme for October

"Service Above Self, a key Rotary motto, comes natural to me," says Rotarian Richard Thomas, Club Service Chair.

Richard added, "As a teenager in Tunapuna I had a birthday club. My friends and I wanted a Christmas party for all the children around. Some, we knew, would not see ham nor a toy for Christmas. We held a Carnival party to raise funds for toys and Christmas fare for the children. And now in Rotary, we do the same for our children in the Beetham community."

Divali in Trinidad: A Festival of Light, Faith, and Unity

In the heart of Trinidad and Tobago’s multicultural landscape, Divali, the Hindu Festival of Lights, stands as a luminous symbol of faith, purity, and spiritual triumph.

Celebrated by Hindus around the world, Divali (also spelt Diwali) holds profound religious meaning, especially in Trinidad, where the festival is embraced not only as a sacred observance but as a vibrant cultural celebration shared across communities.

Celebrating 45 Years of Service, Fellowship, and Impact:
The Rotary Club of Central Port of Spain
Part One

On August 19, 1980, a group of visionaries came together with a shared purpose- to serve their community, to uplift those in need, and to live the Rotary motto Service Above Self. From those humble beginnings, the Rotary Club of Central Port of Spain was born.

Forty-five years later, that vision endures and thrives.

'Move me, nah!'

We hardly ever think about our joints until they beckon to us through the sensation of pain or they swell up after a night of standing or dancing. Sometimes, we just notice that reaching up to wave or to style our tresses, or smooth a balding head while we think, is a bit uncomfortable.

There are some things you need to know about the joints of the body. The names and types will surprise you!

Handing Over Presidency 2025

"A Handing Over from 10 to 3pm? I'm accustomed to going home at 11pm. But wait, this way I'll beat the traffic and be safe at home long before midnight!" Thus, discussions flowed and a new way, a possibly new tradition began. “It was sweet!“ smiled a Rotarian from Chaguanas, as she left with her box and new friends.
PP Rabindra, Admin Chair and PP Barbara and teams were there early, filled with anticipation after all the preparations. Our guests flowed on from Rotary Clubs from all over Trinidad and Tobago: from Pointe-a-Pierre; Felicity/Charlieville; Chaguanas; Aranguez; Diego Martin; St. Augustine; Port-of-Spain; Port-of-Spain West and Maraval.

'Some like it hot...some like it cold'

Posted by Tania Medley
As was mentioned in my last article, we will be looking at the two modalities of heat and ice with regards   to the treatment of pain. We often see various scenarios where the ice is applied to athletes on the   sidelines especially in sporting games such as Basket Ball and sometimes on the track, but it is never   clear as to the actual reasons for the ice nor the safe parameters for the application, and yes there are!
Warm compresses are sometimes applied to the abdomen of young women who suffer from cramps and sometimes, and persons with arthritic joints are told to 'wrap it up' in order to keep the area at a higher temperature if they are in a cooler climate, but why. As physiotherapists, we use Laser Light Therapy and therapeutic Ultrasound to administer heat which can penetrate beneath the skin to a depth greater that topical applications of a warm pack.
Let me share some information with you today as to how, when and why you should apply these very useful home remedies to ease discomfort and commence your recovery as early as possible!

What Happens When You Walk?

Posted by Tania Medley

As a Physio with over 35yrs of experience, this is one of the most used prescriptions for rehabilitation I have ever used, ‘Just go walking!’.

Of course, it would come as part of an overall plan tailored to my patients and with certain guidelines including specifics of footwear, timeframe and terrain…yes terrain. It is important to understand that walking albeit very important in the quest for healthy recovery in the presence of dysfunction, can have adverse effects and retard progress.

Rotary and Autism Awareness

Posted by Annie Lall-Salim
The medically correct term neurodivergent awareness means recognizing and respecting the natural diversity of human brains and acknowledging that people think, learn, and behave differently, with conditions like autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), down syndrome, dyspraxia, dyscalculia and dyslexia being examples of neurodivergence.

Rotarians focus on service above self but how can this happen if many still do not know much about these gifted learners and how cumbersome it can be for parents to get assistance and even access therapy, schools, care, just to name a few, for them. Numerous educators themselves have not been given training to learn how to be patience with such gifted individuals. What is Neurodiversity?

Young Inventor Eco-Friendly Bricks Come Full Circle

Every hero has an origin story. “I was 10 years old when the entire journey started,” explains Binish Desai. It began with a cartoon called Captain Planet, an animated TV series from the 1990s about an environmentalist with superpowers. Desai can still recite the show’s refrain: Captain Planet, he’s our hero / Gonna take pollution down to zero! “That tagline stuck in my mind,” he says. “I wanted to do something to help Captain Planet.”
